Eastern Black Rail Conservation Bank
Ironwood Resource Advisors announces proposed conservation bank
Ironwood Resource Advisors is pleased to announce the recent addition of a proposed Eastern Black Rail Conservation Bank and current permittee responsible mitigation site.
Located in Brazoria County, approximately 35 miles from downtown Houston and 15 miles from Galveston Island, the approved PRM site and proposed bank provides more than 300 acres of habitat supporting coastal prairie and the federally-threatened eastern black rail.
The small, secretive eastern black rail relies on coastal marshes and limited areas of inland wetlands for survival. Due to a number of factors including habitat loss and destruction, and coastal flooding, populations of the bird have declined by more than 90%. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined the species warranted federally threatened status under the Endangered Species Act in 2020.
The proposed conservation bank will serve industry and developers whose actions along the Texas coast may impact the habitat of this threatened species.
